Item description
1. Gyrfalcons are extremely large, so in order to house these birds, you’ll need plenty of space. At maturity, males can reach a size of 61cm and a weight of over 1300kg, whilst females are actually far larger – around 65cm in length and with a wing span that can reach over 160cm.
2. These birds of prey are polymorphic in terms of colouring – this simply means colouring can vary greatly from individual to individual. Gyrfalcons can go from being all white to all dark – there is no standard colouring with birds from this particular breed.
3. Interesting, the gyrfalcon has a long associated history with humans, and has been used as a hunting and sports bird for several years. It is even the official bird of Canada’s Northwestern territories and was even considered an exotic ‘royal’ bird during Medieval times
